Coop & Garden

In this situation, the client needed a large sq ft chicken run that could be integrated into an existing raised-bed system with minimal alteration.  Additionally, draining was added from the coop into the immediate beds by way of mesh-covered PVC piping, so that rinse water from inside the coop could be fed directly into the nearby garden.  As an initial design, this went a long way towards redevelping the entire backyard as a whole.

Stave Coop

Another novel chicken coop experiment, this one was built to model one of the client's favorite old Norwegian Stave churches. It was designed to open outwards at both the peak of the roof (for access to the roosting bar and birds inside), and upwards at the side for access to the laying boxes.  Additionally, the entire back opened for easy cleaning, and the front ramp accordioned up for easy security at night.  Altogether, seven hens roosted comfortably in this thing for years, with room to spare.
