Tine Chnámh/Bonfire
(15" diameter)
Completed November 13, 2005
This piece was commission by a great poet and friend of mine for her mother's wedding. After trading ideas around for a while, we both settled on symbolism over imagery. Here we have a great bonfire, the intent of which was to both burn away her mother's old life and celebrate the beginning of her new one.
This piece experienced a number of happy accidents during its construction, from both my own lack of experience and the constraints of time. The outer border was an entirely last-minute addition -- which I think, in the end, added more to the piece than what had been originally planned. The bevels too were the result of changed plans, and I to this day regret my inability to use them more often.
